From hardwood and laminate to carpet and tile, today’s flooring manufacturers are focused on not only producing on-trend colors and styles, but also developing products that are durable, affordable, and eco-conscious. Below are a few examples of different flooring types for public spaces, such as living rooms and kitchens, and more private spaces, like bathrooms and bedrooms.

Armstrong Flooring

The new Armstrong Flooring Pro program, tailored for builders and other specifiers, offers a selection of exclusive products for professional order, without the potential for cross-shopping in the consumer market. The program offers product across three flooring types—Rigid Core, including the NexPro, Natural Image and Empower series; Flex LVT, including ProMerica; and Vinyl Sheet, including Home Images, Home Reflections, and DuraStride. All of the new flooring is designed for performance and resilience, according to the manufacturer.

The new Scripter collection, based on the look of northern European limestone, includes the manufacturer’s StepWise technology, providing enhanced slip-resistance and making the tiles suitable for use both indoors and outdoors. The tiles are available in four taupe-based neutral designs—Hero, Mentor, Rebel, and Oracle—in a choice of three popular formats: 24-by-24, 12-by-12, and an 8-inch hexagon. An additional design, Quest, is available as an 8-inch hexagon decorative accent, and features an encaustic pattern in cobalt blue and white.

Walker Zanger

The Pop Culture tile set features 8-inch by 8-inch matte porcelain tiles in bold, black-and-white graphic designs inspired by the pop art movement. The set includes a choice of 10 tile designs: four black-and-white geometric patterns, two solids, and four recycled glass mosaics, including two in a black matte/gloss mix and two in a white/matte gloss mix. All tiles can be turned over to create new patterns. The tiles may be applied to floors, walls, wet areas, and exteriors. The glass mosaics also can be used in pool applications.

Today’s Newest Flooring Products Offer an Eclectic Mix of Styles

Pergo Defense

The Pergo Defense+ with SpillProtect laminate flooring, second runner-up in the recent Home Depot 2021 Innovation Awards, utilizes a silver ion-infused top layer to prohibit the growth of microbes, preventing mold, mildew, and odors from penetrating into the lower wood composite layers. The flooring is waterproof, scratch-resistant, and stain-resistant, and utilizes its SpillProtect technology to keep any spilled liquids on the topmost protective layer. The laminate is available in 15 wood designs and colors, including oak, hickory, and pine species.

Anderson Tuftex

The Anderson Tuftex Pet Perfect carpet collection is made with ANSO high-performance solution dyed nylon, and offers enhanced resistance against stains, pet hair, fading, and bleach. The carpets are available in a choice of 28 styles, with up to 36 color choices depending on style. Designs include Sheer Purrfection, a layered geometric pattern available in a choice of 12 colors, and Purrfect Match, evocative of flame-fused glass art, available in eight colors. All carpets are CRI Green Label certified.

The Dekton Craftizen Collection features five colors inspired by Venetian stucco, available in large-format slabs for a variety of applications, including flooring. Color options include Nacre, pictured on the floor above, a tan hue with a silky finish; Micron, a dark gray; Albarium, a powdery white; Umber, a coppery red; and Argentium, which resembles traditional lime stucco. The Dekton manufacturing process incorporates 99% recycled water, 100% renewable energy, and reused raw materials.

The Strata_Heat radiant floor warming system incorporates a spliceless floor heating wire, an uncoupling mat, and a performance-enhancing thermal pack, which may be installed under tile, stone, vinyl, carpeted, or hardwood floor systems. The wire offers a single diameter throughout, eliminating the need for installers to bury the cold lead in the sub-floor, removing a step in the installation process. The system is UL Certified, and designed to reduce floor heat-up and cycle time. The “Floor Focused” thermostat system may be controlled via smartphone app or smart device.

Elemental Hardwoods

Elemental Hardwoods has added a new species to its line of exotic imported woods—Black Mesquite, sourced from the Chaco region of northern Argentina and Paraguay. According to the supplier, Black Mesquite is known for its stability, durability, and distinctive character, as well as its deep brown and gray-brown patterns. It is highly dense, with a silky texture and wild grain, and is recommended for use in glue or nail-down applications. Boards are available in unfinished square-edge TG4S in 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch thicknesses, widths from 3 to 8 inches, and lengths from 1 to 7 feet.
